I am a climate and environmental scientist and climate policy professional dedicated to leveraging science to inform decision making. I am currently the GSA/AAAS Science and Technology Fellow in which I am working with a Member of Congress to link science and policy. Previously, I earned a Ph.D. in Earth and Planetary Science from the University of California, Davis and served as a University of California Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Merced. My past research focused on understanding the diverse impacts of climate change from mountains to coast, including investigating global change in the recent past to better inform the future. At UC Davis, I worked with Dr. Tessa Hill in the Ocean Climate Lab at the UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory. My doctoral research focused on investigating marine sediment records to understand ecosystem responses to climate change in the Holocene. At UC Merced, I worked with Dr. Sora Kim and Dr. Asmeret Asefaw Berhe in the Life and Environmental Sciences Department to investigate geochemistry of wildfire-impacted landscapes. |
In my research I investigate biogeochemistry of a changing world, impacts of environmental change on ecosystems, and human dimensions of global change. I leverage the paleorecord to understand biogeochemical and ecosystem change across systems and timescales. I have significant leadership, communication, and science policy experience, including serving as a Presidential GOLD Fellow at the California Council on Science and Technology, facilitating community-led science as an AGU Thriving Earth Exchange Community Science Fellow, and serving as an Associate Instructor of Environmental Policy at the University of California Center Sacramento. Additionally, I served as a steering committee member for a Paleoclimate to Policy workshop in February 2019 that worked to bridge the science-policy interface and led a student blog on linking paleo to policy.
I am invested in science education and increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM. I served as the director of the Santa Rosa Junior College - Bodega Marine Laboratory Internship Program from 2019-2020. In 2018-2019 I served as an education intern at the UC Museum of Paleontology working to amplify the programs ASTEP and STEMSEAS that provide opportunities for students that are historically underrepresented in STEM the to sail on oceanographic vessels and gain experience in scientific research. I actively cultivate additional collaborations and opportunities for scientific research. In Summer 2019, I worked as a Research Assistant at the California Academy of Sciences on a microfossil research and digitization project.
I am open to building new collaborations and designing new projects. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or ideas.
